Now, Melissa Reddy of The Independent has revealed that the Merseyside club’s priority is to tie the duo down to new long-term contracts. As you can imagine, this is news that has got the supporters reacting in their droves.
Many are, of course, delighted.
In all fairness, neither are urgently in need of new deals – van Dijk has a contract that runs until 2023, whilst Alisson has one until 2024. However, this just goes to show how desperate the Reds are not to lose two of their most important players.
Reported new deals for this duo has led to some supporters mentioning Georginio Wijnaldum’s situation.
The 29-year-old has just 18 months left before he will become a free agent, and there have even been rumours he could depart in the summer. If the Reds do want to tie him down for the foreseeable future, they will need to move fast.
