Romano drops Harry Kane update at Spurs

Harry Kane is very happy at Tottenham Hotspur and is now in line to receive a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano, who delivered a fresh and encouraging update on the England international to the ‘Here We Go’ podcast this week…

What’s the word?

He said:

“About the relationship between Harry Kane and Antonio Conte, if we think what happened eight months ago with Harry Kane who was desperate to leave the club and go to Man City this was his desire, his plan, his idea.

“Something changed and what changed is the manager Antonio Conte. In his last interview, Harry Kane said in public ‘I am super happy, Antonio has been brilliant’.

“It is about the mentality, what Harry Kane loves about Antonio Conte is about how he is changing the mentality of the dressing room.

“When you have a draw or are losing a game, it is like the end of the world and this is what Harry Kane wanted. Of course, let me clarify on the contract because many Tottenham fans are asking what about a new contract for Harry Kane.

“From what I’m told it is not something to be discussed in February or in March so it will take time to see if Harry Kane will sign a deal with Tottenham, when and how long it will be.

“It will take time but we can say the situation is completely different from eight months ago, so good news for Tottenham fans but now it is time to win something or in this case to fight for the Champions League spots because it is key to keep Harry Kane at the club.”

Big news

After last summer’s transfer saga, this will surely leave the Lilywhites faithful absolutely relieved, if not buzzing as it means the club are looking to really keep hold of the 28-year-old for the foreseeable future.

Kane, who is currently earning around £200k-per-week in north London, remains contracted to the summer of 2024 but his links to Manchester City throughout the off-season were a timely reminder that Spurs must improve on the pitch to keep hold of him.

And indeed they have.

The first major step of that process has been appointing Antonio Conte to replace the defensively-minded Nuno Santo in the dugout, something that is evidently already paying serious dividends going by Romano’s comments.

Kane has looked sharper and is in much better form since the Italian’s arrival.

Indeed, he’s already found the net more times (eight) under Conte than with Nuno at the helm (seven) this campaign.

“We are working on the physical condition with the team. We’re trying to improve the intensity, also during the training sessions. I think all these situations can improve the performance with all the players,” Conte said about his leading man after the win over Brighton in the FA Cup at the weekend, a game in which Kane scored in.

Whilst it’s taken a while for him to get up and running, Spurs would be in a far worse situation without his 15 goals and three assists in all competitions, especially as the only senior centre-forward at the club.

Therefore, many around north London will be hugely encouraged by this behind-the-scenes update from Romano.

AND in other news, Antonio Conte may already have a big transfer regret at Spurs…
